FUNDRAISING FOR THE 2004-2005 SEASON -- NEW HOME JERSEYS

Dear Rhodes Football Alumni,

My name is Jeff Freyder and I’m a sophomore wide receiver on the football team. I am writing to tell you about some exciting things happening with the team. Although the end of this year’s season was a little disappointing, after last year’s 7-3 season and win over Trinity, we feel like the football program is taking major steps forward to becoming first class. Our freshman class from this past year is loaded with talent and the team has already started preparing for a run at the SCAC championship and a playoff run for next year. The sense of pride on the team is very high and the goal has been set – anything less than the playoffs is unacceptable. Along with this sense of pride comes the old adage: if you look good, you feel good, and you play good. Some ideas have been talked about inside the team include buying team travel polos or windsuits so that we look more like a team on road trips, and also team underarmour shirts for cold games. But the most popular idea has is purchasing new home jerseys. Unfortunately, our football budget is not enough from the school to fund this effort. Therefore we are prepared to raise money ourselves to help pay for it. The goal is to raise enough money to buy Nike brand jerseys, which are extremely nice, but are a little expensive. The alternative is TAG brand jerseys which are also very nice, and have a new lycra mesh material that fits tight but also is durable and stretches. I talked to a TAG representative the other day and he gave me a quote of about $6000 for a very nice jersey set. The jerseys would be either red or black, depending on what the coaches will approve, although I’ve seen old pictures of Lynx teams wearing red jerseys and I think they looked very sharp.

To fundraise, we are going to sell ads to local businesses like Huey’s, Lenny’s, etc. In addition, we plan to sell advertising on the field, around the fence and in the backs of the endzones to local businesses like Huey’s and Lenny’s that already have a strong relationship with the school and football team. We are confident that we can raise a great deal of money this way.

To help this fundraising effort, we politely ask you, the Rhodes Football Alumni to support us. Any donations, regardless of how small or how large they are, that you would like to provide, we would be more than grateful. The Rhodes Football Program is moving forward and your support would mean a great deal to each and every player.

Besides the fundraising effort, I would personally like to invite everyone to come to at least one home football game. In addition to homecoming, we have our annual showdown with Trinity at home this year, although we would love to have you for as many games as possible. The football team appreciates all the support that we get, but support from football alumni is even more special because we know that you have been in our shoes. You went through the practices, the early meetings, the heat and the cold, and we offer thanks for everything you do for us. Just being part of the Rhodes Football Alumni Association shows that you care about the team. We hope to see you soon!

Thank You,

Jeff Freyder (Class of ‘07)
